Well, it’s about time I shared a little bit about my summer project. It is a labor of love that my sister and I spent many hot summer days completing and I couldn’t be happier!
Until the beginning of this project, our backyard was a wasteland of weeds and garbage bins. We decided it was time to put the space to good use and got the idea to build an outdoor entertainment area.
We started by building a deck. We used old fence boards from a huge fence we are taking down. The boards are beautifully weathered.
Then we framed up a building just large enough for some entertainment storage and a bartender.
Totally caved and bought a framing nailer. Working on the final wall! #diy#backyard#shed #girlpower #atnumber10 A photo posted by Heather McD (@atnumber10) on
We made shutter doors out of yet another fence we took down in the front yard. So glad I didn’t throw them away!
The shutters are built and hanging! Tomorrow is paint and then all that’s left is trim work. So close! #diy #backyard #reclaimedwood #barshed #atnumber10 A photo posted by Heather McD (@atnumber10) on
Next, we needed a place for our family and guests to sit. This picnic table has room for 10!
After a long summer, we ended up with a really fun place to hang out.
Let’s go Blue Jays. #barshed #backyard #atnumber10 A photo posted by Heather McD (@atnumber10) on
My plan is to turn the area with the pebbles into a small skating rink for the winter. I am the only grown up who thinks this is a good idea. I feel like having a hot cider or some gluhwein at the bar while the girls skate is a perfect way to do things. We’ll have to see what happens.
With all the projects that await me in my house, this was probably not the best use of my time and money but I know it is going to be a place that we enjoy for many years. In fact, I see a large 40th birthday party next year for my husband and I!!!!
